参考文献
参考文献部分应为页面上提供的信息提供证据。没有这些证据，信息就会变得毫无用处。请注意，所有参考文献都必须遵循以下准则，以便维基物种中的所有引用保持一致。
若参考文献有多条，则按作者姓名首字母排序。 我们在该部分使用的一个有用模板是{{a|Author Page Name|作者简称}}模板。该模板将以不同于其他文字的字体打印作者姓名（Linnaeus），并创建一个链接，指向介绍作者信息的维基物种页面。 期刊名称及书籍标题应为斜体。
另还有以下规则：
- 年份后加点：
2015. - 首字母缩写后不要加空格：

一个好的参考应该：
- 是分类单元的发表或更改描述
- 列出所有作者的名字、DOI、全文或摘要的链接
- 在扩展参考中列出基础参考的引用文献
如果不满足以上要求，则引用会被标记为存疑。大部分发表于90年前的生物分类文献处于公有领域，可以在生物多样性图书馆(BHL)之类的网站上找到。 一些近期发表的期刊文章提供在线阅览，您可以添加对应文章的链接。
参考文献分类
根据重要性差别可将参考文献章节分为以下分段：

注意单词必须为复数。
参考文献模板
若某篇文章命名或重新审定了多数的新类群，这篇文章会被许多页面引用。 在这种情况下，为发表的论文创建一个参考文献模板是非常有用的。这些参考文献的维基物种标准格式（包括小写字母和斜体的使用）为：
- Author, A. Year. Title of Paper. Name of Journal Volume x (part y): pages n1–n2, plates x1–x2. Internet link.
or for a book...
- Author, A. Year. Title of Book. Name and location of publisher: n pages and x plates. Internet link.
引用模板标题应为Template:作者, 年份，代码为{{作者, 年份}}
。作者名称一般只写明姓氏，在名称与年份间是一个半角冒号和空格。如该模板已被占用，如{{Smith, 2015}}则可用小写字母区分：{{Smith, 2015a}}、{{Smith, 2015b}}、{{Smith, 2015c}}。

Also not allowed is to name reference templates after journals or books. For example, "Zt3690.1.1" (abbreviaton of Zootaxa) is not allowed.
