editTydeoidea Kramer, 1877
- Original status: valid superfamily
Notes
edit- The meaning of Tydeoidea has varied over time. This superfamily was proposed by Cunliffe (1955) to accommodate the families Tydeidae, Speleognathidae, Ereynetidae, and Paratydeidae.
- Next, this superfamily included 4 families: the Paratydeidae, Nematalycidae, Ereynetidae, and Tydeidae (Krantz, 1970: 151–152).
- Next, it also comprised 4 families: the Paratydeidae, Ereynetidae, Tydeidae, and Iolinidae (Krantz, 1978: 236–237).
- Last, the superfamily included the Tydeidae, Iolinidae, Ereynetidae, and Meyerellidae (André & Fain, 2000). This point of view was shared by Walter et al. (2009: 244–245) except that the name "Meyerellidae" was replaced by "Triophtydeidae" (replacement name for Meyerellidae). This classification with 4 families is also adopted by Lin & Zhang (2010) and Zhang et al. (2011).
- A diachronic view is provided by André (2021, fig. 1).
- Paraphyletic taxon according to Szudarek-Trepto et al. (2022).
- "Of all the different and competing hypotheses on the position of Eriophyoidea, a nested placement within Tydeoidea must be one of the least likely because it is incongruent with the fundamentally different modes of gnathosomal integration of these two taxa." (Bolton et al., 2023)
