Community portal put into ja

I'm sorry for the late reply, but the Japanese community portal can now be found here: Wikispecies:Community Portal/ja. @Omotecho: Please check the community portal after my recent edits, and tell me (here) if anything else needs to be fixed as well. For example there is a top section where one can chose from different languages like Greek, English, French, and so forth. Translations for Replaced synonym

The template {{REP}} "Replaced synonym" should have translations, similar to template {{HOT}}. The template is used in synonym lists, see Amaranthus anderssonii for an example. Wikispecies:Localization

Attention fellow Translation administrators AlvaroMolina—Chrumps—CreativeC—יונה בנדלאק—Kaganer—Koavf—Samuele2002—Stïnger.

Together with its subpages the Wikispecies:Localization is one of the core elements used by the automatic localization tools on Wikispecies, and therefore extra important. It is in a somewhat urgent need of being (re-)marked up for translation, and then (re-)translated. This is particularly true for the "Templates", "Preferences", and "Generic interface items" sections near the end of the pages. Right now those sections are completely unavailable in nearly all language versions of Wikispecies, and that's of course not a good thing. They need to be added, prio one.

After all that is done, we also have a link- and formatting problem. Some of the localised versions of the Wikispecies:Localization page show badly formatted links. For an example of such a page, please see the (non-Brasil) Portuguese version Wikispecies:Localization/pt. There the "pt" links refer back to pages with Portuguese page names, instead of to the English originals. For example there is a link pointing to "MediaWiki:Táxons autorados/pt" instead of to the proper "MediaWiki:Authored taxa/pt". The last one (in English) will be used by Wikimedia's servers for automatic translations into Portuguese, however the first one (in Portuguese) will always be ignored. The reason simply is that the MediaWiki software use English as a base, and there's nothing much we can do about that. Be that as it may, the solution is simple: the words within the pages should of course be translated into for example Portuguese, however the page names must all be in English. Switch the link from the Portuguese name "MediaWiki:Táxons autorados/pt" into the English "MediaWiki:Authored taxa/pt" and the problem is fixed!

I don't know that there is a way to fix the page itself being translated. We've come across this before but I don't know how to fix it if you set the page to a non-English name. —Justin (koavf)❤T☮C☺M☯ 02:00, 18 September 2019 (UTC)

@Koavf: Hi Justin! After a more close investigation yes, I agree that looks tricky... Perhaps we need to simply scrap the faulty pages and then recreate them using the proper format? Tedious work, but if it needs to be done it needs to be done...

However that regards part two of the problems described above. Part one should be more straightforward, i.e. marking + translating the complete Wikispecies:Localization main page and then adding the "Templates", "Preferences", and "Generic interface items" sections to the respective localized versions (if and when properly formatted...) I'll give you a hands-on example of why this would be helpful. As you know all of the "Wikispecies:Localization" (sub)pages are write-protected for non-admins. However I would still like all other users to be able to contribute if they want to, so I've created a few help pages with lists they can translate in order to facility this. I feel that's important since the total sum of languages our 9 translation administrators handle only adds up to about a third of the almost 40 languages the Wikispecies user interface is currently translated into (albeit none of the translations are yet complete). Here's one of the help pages, in this case for Czech speakers: User:Tommy Kronkvist/Localization/Čeština. The problem is that many users then tend to want to cross-check the data on the English "Wikispecies:Localization" main page with for example Wikispecies:Localization/cs if they've set Czech as their preferred language in their user preferences. This may lead to confusion since about 20–30% of the English page is missing from the Czech (and most other) versions. So far I've only created these help pages for the Czech, Danish, Dutch and Polish languages but plan to add more for basically all languages pretty soon. We should have the underlying framework working properly first, though. –Cheers, Tommy Kronkvist (talk), 05:32, 18 September 2019 (UTC).

@Tommy Kronkvist: "Translate" tags may be kept. But also needs to remove numbered markers (numbers in the comment tag only) for "Preferences" and "Generic interface items" sections. Correct template for any new section header:

General note: in my opinion, current Wikispecies localisation scheme is strongly non-optimal, and should be radically reformed. Lot of content may be migrated into Wikidata. --Kaganer (talk) 17:08, 18 September 2019 (UTC)

I agree. Unfortunately changing the entire current system takes a lot of work, and almost all of our translation admins are inactive. We have a total of nine translation administrators including you, Koavf and me. Out of the remaining six admins one hasn't logged in since January, and three haven't been logged in since 2018... Hopefully they will be back soon, but quite frankly I don't know if they plan to ever join us again. Personally I only have a rather limited time to work with the translations, since my main focus is my responsibilities as one of Wikispecies' six bureaucrats. That's also why I'm listed as tending to "Technical matters only" on the Translation administrators page, while all other translation admins are concerned with "All issues". –Tommy Kronkvist (talk), 20:01, 18 September 2019 (UTC).

@Kaganer: Yes, I made this as a kludge to make the site more accessible. I'm happy to have some replacement. How would this work? Would we have templates that draw on lexemes from d:? E.g. '''Carol Linneaus IX''' (1989–2057), {{l|112}} {{l|449}} where {{L}} is a template that draw info from d: for the words "Swedish" and "entomologist" (note that the numbers I have input are random)? —Justin (koavf)❤T☮C☺M☯ 23:00, 18 September 2019 (UTC)
