I wish to be able to edit in the MediaWiki namespace, in order to add useful editing gadgets to Wikispecies. I did this successfully, before this elevated level of permission was introduced (see for example MediaWiki:Gadget-HotCat / MediaWiki:Gadget-HotCat.js. I need to be an Interface Admin in order to update badly formatted and/or outdated MediaWiki CSS- and JavaScript files. Tommy Kronkvist (talk) 10:36, 13 December 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Close as promoted. Permission set to expire automatically in a year. OhanaUnitedTalk page 00:51, 26 December 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Discussion

  1. Yes, I've been using two factor authorisation (TFA) for all Wikimedia- and Phabricator logins since it was first officially implemented by Wikimedia (i.e. I did not fully trust nor use it during the initial 2016–2018 TFA beta-test period).
  2. As described by our Interface administrators guideline above: "The promotion to interface administrator is time-limited to one year, after which the user is automatically demoted." In other words the time-limit is set as part of granting the interface admin rights, and 365 days later the demotion is automatically handled by the MediaWiki software.

  1. Too soon. User has only been posting to his project since yesterday, and while their translations are very welcome, that's all they've done; they have created no original content, taxonomic or otherwise. Nor are they active on other Wikimedia projects. Andy Mabbett (Pigsonthewing); Talk to Andy; Andy's edits 12:15, 1 April 2021 (UTC)[reply]

I request Interface Adminship user status in order to update outdated and/or non-working MediaWiki CSS- and JavaScript files, so that we can make such edits without having to involve an external Steward. See this discussion at the Admin's Noticeboard for a current example. Tommy Kronkvist (talk) 17:31, 5 April 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Yes @OhanaUnited, I've been using two factor authorisation (TFA) for all Wikimedia- and Phabricator logins since it was first officially implemented by Wikimedia (i.e. I did not fully trust nor use it during the initial 2016–2018 TFA beta-test period). You added me to the interface administrator user group for a period of one year in December 26, 2019, and I confirmed using 2FA already then. Requesting renewal of my past status as an Interface administrator which was automatically revoked in April 17, after one year of service. Please see Wikispecies:Interface administrators/Archive 1 for my previous requests and promotions in December 2019 and April 2021. From a technical point of view (two-factor authentication and TOTP etc.) nothing much have changed since then. Tommy Kronkvist (talk) 11:04, 27 April 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Per Wikispecies:Village Pump#Gadget-popups, we only have one interface admin now and that may leave requests hanging for a bit. I'm a reasonably technically competent user with template editor permissions and other advanced trust permissions on this wiki and other WMF wikis. —Justin (koavf)TCM 03:46, 17 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]
