Type locality: Río Guarapiche, affluent of River San Juan, near Monagas, Venezuela.

Etymology: in honor of Benigno Román (also known as Benigno Román Gonzalez), herpetologist, ichthyologist and Jesuit monk, who collected type. The ETYFish Project
