Syntypes: (5) USNM 104 (orig. 5, now 1).

Type locality: Otter Creek, Arkansas [= tributary to North Fork of Red River, either Kiowa or Tillman County, southwestern Oklahoma], U.S.A.

Etymology: -ensis, suffix denoting place: lutra (= otter), referring to Otter Creek, Oklahoma (erroneously reported as Arkansas), USA, type locality. (From The ETYFish Project)
