Type species: Tetragonopterus xinguensis ♀ Steindachner, 1882. Type by original designation (also monotypic).
Etymology: –ia (= belonging to): William J. Moenkhaus, Eigenmann’s colleague at Indiana University, formerly of the Museu Paulista in São Paulo, Brazil. (From The ETYFish Project)
