Name

edit

Larifuga mantoni Lawrence, 1934.

Type locality: South Africa, Eastern Cape, "Amatola Mountains", Hogsback.

Typus: Syntypes ♂ & ♀, Albany Museum. Legit. May-1933, "Dr. S. Manton of Cambridge" (see Lawrence, 1934: p.549).

Note: The species name is an honorific, apparently for Dr. Sidnie Milana Manton (Collector of Onychophora, etc). ICZN Art. 31.1.2 states "A species-group name, if a noun in the genitive case" ... "formed directly from a modern personal name, is to be formed by adding to the stem of that name" ... "-ae if of a woman". Staręga (1989) made the incorrect assumption that previously established specific epithets based on modern personal names of women had to be reforged with modified -ae suffix, but this does not constitute a justified subsequent emendation.
