Type species: Careproctus parini Andriashev & Prirodina, 1990
Etymology: The first part of the generic name is derived from Volodya (the diminutive for "Vladimir"). The genus is named after Vladimir Vladimirovich Fedorov (1939–2011), who was a great Russian ichthyologist, a colleague and friend of the author. The second part of the generic name is derived from a Latinised Greek word ichthys (= fish). Volodya was one of the best specialists in the ichthyofauna of the northern regions of the Pacific Ocean. There were also the families that he liked most of all — the snailfish, the eelpout, the sculpin, and the flatfish. He was acquainted with them on a world scale. Over his last years he worked on a review dedicated to the geographic distribution of Liparidae family in the World ocean. Unfortunately, he did not manage to finish his manuscript.
