Proposal
editin a first step
- to remove "Superclassis:Tetrapod" from Osteichthyes
- to add "Superclassis:Tetrapod" in Amphibia, Reptilia, Aves & Mammalia
- to add in Gnathostomata:
- (Super)Classes: †Placodermi - Chondrichthyes - †Acanthodii - Osteichthyes - Tetrapoda
- with in Superclassis: Osteichthyes:
- Classes: Actinopterygii - Sarcopterygii
- with in Superclassis: Tetrapoda:
1 bis - displacement of Cephalaspidomorphi
for Cephalaspidomorphi - I'm afraid the situation is unclear and probably a transitory solution could be:
- in Vertebrata:
- Infraphyla: †Pteraspidomorphi - †Thelodonti - Cephalaspidomorphi - Gnathostomata
- in (unranked):Cephalaspidomorphi
- (unranked): Osteostraci - Galeaspida - Pituriaspida - Anaspida - Hyperoartia
- change Hyperoartia as (unranked) with (in place of Agnatha)
- Ordo: Petromyzontiformes
(N.B. It could be more prudent to develop all Cephalaspidomorphi directly under Vertebrata. Myxini have to be added at the relevant place.)
in a 2nd step
It could be interesting to add some phylogenetic indications.
Evolution leads to situations as: Former_clade => New_clade ; complementary_of_New_clade.
A presentation of the phylogenetic tree could be:
- step i : New_clade_i, toxonomic_rank_of_New_clade_i,
- (eventually) complementary_of_New_clade_i, toxonomic_rank_of_complementary_of_New_clade_i
The presentation can be:
for Subphylum: Vertebrata
Superregnum: Eukaryota
Cladus: Unikonta
Cladus: Opisthokonta
Cladus: Holozoa
Regnum: Animalia
Subregnum: Eumetazoa

Cladus: Holozoa
Regnum: Animalia
Subregnum: Eumetazoa
Cladus: Bilateria
Cladus: Nephrozoa
Superphylum: Deuterostomia
Phylum: Chordata
Subphylum: Vertebrata
- (...) Cephalaspidomorphi; Placodermi; Chondrichthyes; Acanthodii - Osteichthyes.
In fact it is not very different from the actual presentation: only differ the order & delimiters.

- I posted some relevant links from the Tree of Life website here: http://species.wikimedia.org/wiki/Talk:Gnathostomata_%28Vertebrata%29
- Your first suggestions essentially match TOL's taxonomy. The only difference I recall is that they don't use Osteichthyes; they leave Actinoptergyii and Sarcopterygii separate. Given that, I vote for carrying them out.
- I'm less certain about your other suggestions concerning the clades. I agree that it is interesting. I'm concerned about the cladograms becoming too unwieldy and difficult to change or navigate, though.-- Rutledge 4:50 5 November 2006 (EST)
