Type locality: "small fresh-water streams to the north of the Orange River, ... from pools in the beds of temporary streamlets"

Lectotype: BMNH 1859.5.7.85 (skin in alcohol); Paralectotype (1): BMNH 1851.10.26.84 (stuffed). Lectotype designated by Seegers, 1996: 327.
