Lectotype: BMNH 1906.9.6.40. Paralectotypes: BMNH 1906.9.6.41-42 (2).

Type locality: Northern end of Lake Tanganyika.

Etymology: From the Latin granulum, meaning of grain, in reference of the granular papillae present on skin of body.
