The name of this taxon appears to be invalid under the relevant nomenclatural code, as it is a redundant synonym of Ophthalmognathus dogieli.

Ophthalmognathus schoutedeni was formally described by Fain (1956: 18-21) after a first citation by Fain (1955: 695; nomen nudum).
The synonymy with Ophthalmognathus dogieli was already supposed by Fain (1958: 179) and was confirmed by Domrow (1969: 392).
Holotype examined and species redescribed by Skoracki et al. (2018: 411).
