Pteropus alecto gouldii Peters, 1868

  • Syntypes (n=2): ZMB 3408, adult ♀, skin and skull, and ZMB 3409, juvenile ♀, skin and skull, both donated by C. Godeffroy, ex Museum Godeffroy.
  • Type locality: “Rockhampton in Nordostaustralien”.

    • Holotype: QM JM8648, adult ♀, skin and skull, collected by L.S. Hall and G.C. Richards on 7 December 1988.
    • Type locality: “St. Pauls Mission (10°11’S, 142°20’E) on the east coast of Moa Island, Torres Strait”.

Native distribution areas

  • Papua New Guinea: coastal plain of the Western, Gulf and Central Provinces until the Yule Islands.
  • Australia: north-western Western Australia to north-eastern Queensland, and Torres Strait including Poruma, Warraber and Boigu islands.
