- Type locality: United States. New Mexico. Grant: Mimbres River (New Mexico Highway 61 & Royal John Mine Road; 32°43.8'N, 107°52'W; 1665 m).
- Etymology: The species epithet, mimbres, is a noun in apposition and refers to the river in southern New Mexico where the type series was collected.
