- Type locality: Cuba. Sancti Spiritus: Topes de Collantes (21°54.4'N, 80°01.4'W, 670 m).
- Etymology: The species epithet, barba, is Latin word for beard and refers to the distinctive tuft of setulae, the beard, on the ventral portion of the epandrium of this species.
