Pachypanchax Myers, 1933

Gender: masculine

Type species: Haplochilus playfairii Günther, 1866, by original designation.

Etymology: Pachypanchax from the Greek pachy, meaning robust and Panchax, a synonym of a related genus Aplocheilus, referring to the robust appearance of this genus.
