- Etymology: from Ancient Greek words for "rough" and "club", refers to the rough, club-shaped, lower arm spines.
- Type locality: R/V “Albatross”, sta. 5029, 28-09-1906, Okhotsk Sea, Sakhalin Id., 48° 22' 30" N 145° 43' 30" E., 805 m, black sand, gravel, bottom temperature 1.8°C.
- Holotype: USNM 25649
