  The name of this taxon appears to be invalid under the relevant nomenclatural code, as it is a redundant synonym of Ophthalmognathus.

  • Neospeleognathus was first described as a subgenus of Speleognathus (Fain, 1958: 178). Initially, it included only two species, schoutedeni & poffei.
  • Fain & Lukoschus (1972: 90-91) added a third species, amazona.
