Name

Type locality: Xe Bang Fai watershed, Xe Bang Fai at Ban Geng Sahwang, Mekong basin, Laos.
Etymology: Named in honor of Japanese ichthyologist Tokiharu Abe, who contributed very much to the study of this group of species.
