Syntypes (5): BMNH 1920.5.26.1 (?); MRAC 14352-54 (3).

Type locality: Democratic Republic of Congo, Tributary of Lukinda River, a tributary of Moero Lake (estimated at 8.51°S, 28.96°E).[1]

Etymology: The species name squalostoma is perhaps from Latin squalidus (= without ornament), and Greek stoma, (= mouth).
