Holotype: IEBR A.2011.7, male (ventral tail base dissected), (Figs 1–3, 5, 6), collected by Truong Quang Nguyen and Phouthone Kingsada on 6 May 2010.
Type locality: Nam Cave 268 m elevation, near Ban Muang Song, Vang Vieng District, Vientiane Province, Laos.
Etymology: Named in honour of the author's friend and colleague Patrick David (MNHN, Paris, France), for his outstanding contributions to the reptile fauna of the Oriental Region.
