- Type locality: Brazil. São Paulo: Praia Puruba (23°21'S, 44°55.6'W; beach).
- Etymology: The species epithet, carvalhorum, is a plural genitive Latin patronym to honor and recognize the contribution of the A. Bernardo Carvalho family (Bernardo, Monica, Elisa) to this study of the shore flies of Brazil.
