Type species: Draconectes narinosus Kottelat, 2012

Etymology: From the Greek drakon (= dragon), and nectes (= swimmer); a reference to the habitat of the only known species of the genus, on an island of Halong Bay. Halong means 'descending dragon' and is derived from the local legend that dragons created the landscape of the bay. Gender masculine.
