- Holotype: ZMB, mounted skin, collected by Friedrich Wilhelm Sieber prior to 1806.
- Type locality: “Von seiner Naturgeschichte weiss ich bis jetzt so wenig anzugeben, dass nicht einmal die Gegend, in welcher er lebt, genau bekannt ist, sondern nur, dass er in den unermesslichen Wildnissen des Innern der Provinz Parà in Brasilien angetroffen wird”, restricted to “Codajáz, north bank of Rio Solimões, Amazonas, Brazil” by Hershkovitz (1963: 56), and to “Aiapuá (Ayapuá) left (west) bank of the Rio Purus, Amazonas, Brazil” by Byrne, Rylands, Nash & Boubli (2020: 22).
