- Type locality: United States. Oregon Baker: Goose Creek (35 km E Baker City; 44°49.2'N, 117°27.79'W; 825 m); 27 Jun 1968, W.W. Wirth.
- Etymology: The species epithet, wallowa, is a noun in apposition and refers to the Wallowa Mountains in northeastern Oregon. The headwaters of Goose Creek are in the Wallowas.
