Schrank (1776) used, for the first time, the binomial nomenclature (Acarus Limacum, p. 13) and gave an illustration (plate I, Fig. 20).
The binomen, Acarus limacum, is used again by Schrank (1781: 521).

Living on snails, not to be confused with Riccardoella oudemansi living on slugs (Graham et al., 1993).
