Discussion
editPlease see this Phabricator ticket and this rather short discussion here, for deployment details and tracking. InternetArchiveBot is explained in more detail at m:InternetArchiveBot.—CYBERPOWER (Chat) 00:55, 19 May 2017 (UTC)
- @Cyberpower678: Thank you for this. Under what circumstances would you anticipate exceeding 10 edits per minute? Our bot policy says
"Bots' editing speed should be regulated in some way; subject to approval, bots doing non-urgent tasks may edit approximately once every ten seconds, while bots doing more urgent tasks may edit approximately once every four seconds."
. Andy Mabbett (Pigsonthewing); Talk to Andy; Andy's edits 17:54, 19 May 2017 (UTC)- At those speeds the bot will never be able to finish a run without the issue still getting larger. IABot also doesn't have a rate throttle primarily because the numerous analysis routines in use restrict the bot's speed. It's usually faster on smaller articles with URLs it already encountered once before. If I note the request above, then it operator wants to run 50/minute, that's significantly faster than what IABot is asking to do.—CYBERPOWER (Chat) 18:00, 19 May 2017 (UTC)
- Policies should be viewed as guidelines and on a case by case basis, that is the job of us admins and crats. I have no issue with the speed this bot would be running, I can see that need. My support vote stands. Cheers Scott Thomson (Faendalimas) talk 19:06, 19 May 2017 (UTC)

- Running now. I was rather shocked at how sparse URLs are or lack of any template indicating that they're dead.—CYBERPOWER (Chat) 02:41, 1 June 2017 (UTC)
- Sorry. I feel asleep during the trial. So it shot a little past 100 edits.—CYBERPOWER (Chat) 07:29, 1 June 2017 (UTC)

- If the bot gets approved, may I suggest and recommend also adding
https://tools.wmflabs.org/iabot/index.php?page=runbotsingle&wiki=specieswiki&pagesearch=Wikispecies:Bots/Requests_for_approval/InternetArchiveBot
to MediaWiki:Histlegend?—CYBERPOWER (Chat) 20:55, 1 June 2017 (UTC)
@Cyberpower678: apologies I have had a busy few days. Since there have been no more comments in a few days this bot is fully approved. Cheers Scott Thomson (Faendalimas) talk 13:57, 6 June 2017 (UTC)
- Thank you for approving. @Faendalimas: I would recommending also adding the following wiki markup to the bottom of MediaWiki:Histlegend
[https://tools.wmflabs.org/iabot/index.php?page=runbotsingle&wiki=specieswiki&pagesearch={{FULLPAGENAMEE}} Fix dead links]
