Requests for adminship status

Maxim (talkcontribsblock logall projects) (administrator)

I'm an admin at Commons and enwiki, and I joined here to revert some vandalism. I've been doing that for the past few months, and another "job" I do is to tag test pages. Now, these pages can sit around Category:Candidates for speedy deletion for over 6 hours, and it would be easier for all if I do it. Also, I'm applying for the bureaucrat flag at the same time, as I strongly believe that on such a small wiki, any admin can do the bureaucrat's job as it's such a little extension. Monobi has applied three days after he became an admin, and he'll certainly do fine; I don't see any problem with me getting both flags at the same time. After some consideration, I've decided it would be better for me to stick with +admin only. There are enough 'crats atm and I don't think I've been here enough to assume that role as well. But to be honest, what's the difference? On such a small project, I think any admin can be trusted to be a bureaucrat, as usually there's almost no promotions, renames or flaggings to be done. On the other hand, if because of my experience and time spent here you feel it's best I be an admin for a bit then apply for 'crat, I'm cool with that. Maxim(talk) 16:18, 14 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I do not need to be an administrator here, but I think that if I sometimes go here, administrator tools would be good. I am an administrator on Swedush Wikipedia, Swedish Wiktionary and Swedish Wikinews. I can not guarantee activity nor think I will be that active here, but I will probably get here now and then, and then I would check RC, and, if I find vandalism, delete or revert it. I also want to change the link to COmmunity Portal in the navigation bar in the left of all pages to the Swedish translation, Wikispecies:Deltagarportalen. I also have knoledge in Swedish, and I think that no administrator knows that language and it is a huge fault in an interlingual wiki. Calandrella 15:10, 16 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Discussion

Calandrella can help out with translation efforts. I was thinking of voting on giving temporary adminship (6 weeks for example), and if Calandrella does good job, he can apply for permanent adminship. Why I suggest this is because Calandrella is trusted on most sv projects, and I think he can help out with admin tasks quite a bit, but at the same time, he needs more experience. Maxim(talk) 15:43, 18 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Answer to OhanaUnited: Yes, of course, but I have also deleted some vandalism and rollbacking and deleting pages would make the work esaier. As there are not very many active users here, sometimes I see vandalism but no administrator is here. Temporary adminship, I don't know... Is that technically possible? Calandrella 18:42, 18 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]
To be honest, translation is not a major factor in this project so you don't score a lot of points this way. It's great to have but not a must (contrary to Meta and Commons), which is why the taxonavigation section is in latin, not English. We are here to build and categorize a reference directory for species, not a foreign language chatroom (though discussing local species are welcome). OhanaUnitedTalk page 04:24, 19 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]
I don't want to score a lot of points, I just want to help the project. But, I think it is good to add Swedish names to the articles. Calandrella 11:41, 19 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]
If you stick around for a couple more months (I mean contributing actively, editing articles, translating pages, reverting vandalism, etc.), then I will be confident enough to support you. OhanaUnitedTalk page 14:23, 23 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Sure thing, I'll do (have had a wikibreak last week). Calandrella 13:50, 27 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Ends 02:16, 20 November 2008 (UTC) I've noticed this user, who chooses to edit as an IP, to perform many housekeeping tasks related to articles, even tagging vandalism for deletion and requesting blocks. In the past few months, more than have requests for deletion have come from 130.216.1.16. I believe that 130.x will make very good use of the sysop tools, as well as cutting my workload. :p Since it is impossible to assign +sysop to an IP, the rights will be assigned to the account Stho002; either 130.x will use that account only for sysop tasks, or they will switchto use that account instead of the IP. For interests of confirming the link between account and IP, the account's uploaded some images to Commons that 130.x's used, so I'm certain of them being the same individual. Discussion

I'm requesting adminship mainly for the ability to delete pages and edit the MediaWiki namespace. I continuously find myself wishing I can delete my mistakes and templates that no longer are needed (e.g. when a taxon has been synonymized and it's accompanying template will no longer be used). It will also come handy when I find one those pages that simply don't belong here (e.g. vernacular named pages or encyclopedia articles) and of course the occasional vandalism we get. The technical side of 'Species is likewise in need of a little help. For example, I made a request on MediaWiki talk:Edittools back in April which has gone unnoticed (I guess using {{Editprotected}} is kinda useless). As for the other admin tools, I don't see myself using them much. I'm pretty conservative with blocks and protections, although I have no issue blocking those silly vandalizing IPs. I consider Commons my home wiki (where I'm also an admin) but I do plan to help out here pretty regularly. Thanks for your consideration. Rocket000 22:52, 15 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]

I am requesting adminship on Wikispecies. I want to improve this project. I'm interested in zoology, especially ichthyology. I spend a lot of time trying to put taxonomic articles on Polish Wikipedia in order. I have edited Wikipedia consistently since March of 2006 and since October of 2008 I'm admin on Polish Wikipedia. I have edited Wikispecies since July of 2006 - initially I was making minor edits - mainly interwiki - but after some time I concluded that I have enough experience and knowledge to become an active member of this project. Yet I increasingly edit Wikispecies in substantial aspects. I would enjoy administrative works. A hindrance is my quite poor ability to write in English (I asked another person to translate this text), but I understand written English. It is not necessary for me to have administrator tools but surely would mobilize me to further work - to Projects advantage. I will respect your decision and want to ensure you that it - if negative - will not have an effect on my activity on Wikispecies.

I excuse, but I don't know English. Therefore I use the autotranslator. But I hope will is understood.

At me it is a lot of ideas and desire to develop the given project, one of the cores:

1. To create multilingual discussion of the project (similarly beta.wikiversity.org) is will allow to talk about the project to people in different languages. Now it is made only in the rudimentary form even the most base rules, for example, aren't translated.

2. To load it is a lot of information from NCBI and to connect that already is links. Now it is necessary in manual to add the information on it.

3. Probably, to make more beautiful registration of pages of Wikispecies

4. To connect this project with my project (ru.vlab.wikia.com) where settles down and the information on DNA, RNA kinds will develop

Each of these points is big job. I have already submitted inquiry about bot granting. But it will be aren't necessary not enough since I probably need to delete page which have appeared after processing of the gone material. It is necessary to have access to the protected system files. Also if I am required I can help will cope with vandalism. S.J. 16:24, 11 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Well, I remove the inquiry. But colleagues - so it is not good, at all without wishing to discuss and without understanding. You too quickly do the conclusions. S.J. 00:43, 12 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]

And by the way is a multilingual project! S.J. 00:48, 12 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Multilingual is one thing, not using the accepted scientific language (English) is another. OhanaUnitedTalk page 02:15, 12 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]
scientific language is Latin. In the given project - it is not necessary to be the scientist and the more so the scientist which English knows! 1. There are a couple of reasons...
    1. Your unilateral change towards the root template tells me you are being too bold when making changes. There's no discussion or any communications issued ahead of time.
    2. You only became active since September, and the community cannot judge to see if they can place their trust in you due to the brief time you're here.
    3. At bare minimum, we need users to have basic understanding of English. English is the accepted language in global scientific community. But you said you need to use autotranslator just to make this request. Do you know that autotranslators sometimes can be wrong? I don't want to have any "lost in translations". (which brings me to the next point)
    4. Using Google Translate myself (yes, I know I'm eating my own words because I used autotranslator, just keep reading...), I realized that you are the subject of an outstanding arbitration against you (link is translated from Russian to English by Google Translate [1]) and the arbitration committee just accepted it 2 weeks ago.
As you can see, there's a lot of trust issues involved, and I believe this is not the best time for you to request to be an administrator. OhanaUnitedTalk page 23:54, 11 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]
