Holotype: ANSP 9916, skin, collected by Dr. Kane, U.S. Navy. [presumed lost fide Pianka (2004: 221)]

Type locatity: “Manilla [=Manila]”, Luzon, Philippines.

Synonyms

  • Uaranus [sic] ornatus Gray, 1845: 10 [preoccupied by Tupinambus ornatus Daudin, 1803]

Holotype: BMNH 1946.8.30.98, juvenile indet., collected by H. Cumming.

Type locality: “Philippine Islands”.

  • Varanus grayi Boulenger, 1885: 312 [replacement name for Varanus ornatus Gray, 1845]
