Moving pages

@Tle003:

  1. It's much better to use a subpage (i.e. User:Tle003/Sandbox) instead of your actual userpage.
  2. You can just copy-paste the wikicode! That's what I do.

Creating pages

edit

@Tle003: When you want to create a new page you can use the Wikispecies search box as a starting point. It's located in the upper right corner of the all pages. Try it out now by entering "Example taxon" in the search box, then hit the "Enter" key (or click the tiny looking glass icon within the search field). You will be shown a page with the search results. If the taxon name you entered is listed with a blue link then the page is already created (though you can of course edit it if you like to). If instead the link is red you can start creating the page by simply clicking it. That way your new page will be created using the correct page name all from start, and we don't have to move it around so much afterwards... :-) Happy editing! –Tommy Kronkvist (talk)‚ 20:09, 1 October 2019 (UTC).Reply

Hello Tle003. Please always use the full author page name in author links, not the IPNI abbreviation:

 Y  {{a|Charles Baron Clarke|C.B.Clarke}}

 N  {{a|C.B.Clarke}}

The reason is that the abbreviations are only unique within the field of botany. In zoology many, many authors can share the same abbreviation, and those may also be the same abbreviations that are used by botanists. For example {{a|Ferguson}} does not redirect to the botanist William Ferguson, even though "Ferguson" is his IPNI standard form. Instead it redirects to this page: Ferguson which lists no less than ten botanists and zoologists... In order to link to the specific botanist, we need instead use the full page name as a link, like this: {{a|William Ferguson|Ferguson}}. That will of course still be rendered as Ferguson, but link to William Ferguson rather than to the disambiguation page with 10 different authors.

Welcome to Wikispecies!

edit

Hello, and welcome to Wikispecies! Thank you for your contributions. I hope you like the place and decide to stay. Here are some pages you might like to see:

If you have named a taxon, then it is likely that there is (or will be) a Wikispecies page about you, and other pages about your published papers. Please see our advice and guidance for taxon authors.

If you have useful images to contribute to Wikispecies, please upload them at Wikimedia Commons. This is also true for video or audio files containing bird songs, whale vocalization, etc.

Please sign your comments on talk pages using four tildes (~~~~); this will automatically produce your username (if you're logged in) and the date. Please also read the Wikispecies policy What Wikispecies is not. If you need help, ask me on my talk page, or in the Village Pump. Again, welcome! -- Andy Mabbett (Pigsonthewing); Talk to Andy; Andy's edits 19:19, 14 July 2021 (UTC)Reply
