Welcome to Wikispecies!

Hello, and welcome to Wikispecies! Thank you for your contributions. I hope you like the place and decide to stay. Here are some pages you might like to see:

If you have named a taxon, then it is likely that there is (or will be) a Wikispecies page about you, and other pages about your published papers. Please see our advice and guidance for taxon authors.

If you have useful images to contribute to Wikispecies, please upload them at Wikimedia Commons. This is also true for video or audio files containing bird songs, whale vocalization, etc.

Please sign your comments on talk pages using four tildes (~~~~); this will automatically produce your username (if you're logged in) and the date. Please also read the Wikispecies policy What Wikispecies is not. If you need help, ask me on my talk page, or in the Village Pump. Again, welcome!

Vernacular names edit

Hi again. Please note that as per the Help:Vernacular names section guideline, the list of vernacular names should include only one vernacular name per language and taxon. Thank you. –Tommy Kronkvist (talk), 16:49, 17 January 2019 (UTC).Reply

Hello Tommy.
I have reviewed the Help:Vernacular names section guidelines and will edit my additions to comply shortly.
Any advice on linking the relevant af.wikipedia articles? — The preceding unsigned comment was added by PixelVulpix (talkcontribs) 16:58, 17 January 2019‎.
Thank you for your quick reply. Nowadays any inter-wiki links are served semi-automatically by Wikidata. Manually adding inline Wikipedia-links to any of the Wikispecies' taxon- or author pages is unnecessary (and also unrecommended). Instead all af.wikipedia.org articles should first be added to Wikidata, and the Wikidata servers will then automatically add the relevant links to the "In Wikipedia" sub-section in the left-hand menu you see on all Wikispecies (and Wikipedia) pages. You can see an example of such an af.wikipedia.org link on the Punica granatum page. The corresponding Wikidata item for that taxon name can be found here: Q13188. This is the preferred way of sharing links and other data between the different Wikimedia sister projects, since it's automatic and system-wide. Another example of that functionality is the {{Image}} code string on the Punica granatum page. It can be used on most Wikimedia pages and automatically fetches a picture (in this case of the pomegranate fruit) from the Wikidata database, without the need of adding any Commons file name to it. All of the Wikidata features aren't fully implemented on the Afrikaans Wikipedia yet, but I'm sure they will be in due time.
