Trichomycterus piratymbara Katz et al., 2013

  • Holotype: UFRJ 8602.
  • Paratypes: UFRJ 7276 (29), 8595 (5 (c&s)).

Type locality: Brazil, Estado de Minas Gerais, Município de Cristais, João Pinheiro stream, on road to Cristais.

Etymology: The name piratymbara, from the Tupi language, is a combination of pira (= fish), and tymbara (= to dig it self). This name is a reference to the peculiar habit of this species to hide in the substrate.
