Tethya californiana de Laubenfels, 1932
- Syntypes (2): USNM 21495 and BMNH 29.8.22.15, collected by Max de Laubenfels on 25 July 1926.
- Type locality: “Pescadero Point [(36º33.6′N, 121º57.1′W)], near Carmel, Calif. [=California], intertidal”.

- Type locality: “Rocky hard bottom substrate in the shallow Infralittoral (10-25 m depth) near Ohiat Islet, Northeast Pacific, Barkley Sound, Bamfield, Vancouver Island, British Columbia, Canada, coordinates 48°51′3.00′′ N, 125°11′60.00′′ W”.
- Tethya vacua Austin, Ott, Reiswig, Romagosa & McDaniel, 2014: 76 [synonymised by Turner (2020: 219)]
- Holotype: CASIZ 053441, collected by France & Efford on 24 December 1981.
- Type locality: “Channel Islands, southern California, (34°0′N, 120°0.1′W), 9 m depth”.
