Synodus macrocephalus Cressey, 1981: 27, Figs. 21, 26b [Preoccupied by Synodus macrocephalus Lacepède 1803 (a cyprinid). Usage of S. macrocephalus, rather then the replacement name Synodus cresseyi Prokofiev 2008. (See Ho & al.)]

Holotype: USNM 217776.

Paratypes: USNM 217739 (6).

Non-type material: USNM 217616 (1).

Type locality: Somalia, 17°24'N, 51°35'E, depth 75-175 meters.
