Lectotype: BMNH 1887.11.3.47. Paralectotypes: BMNH 1920.5.26.103 (1); BMNH 1887.11.3.48 (1).
Type locality: Ruva River, Arusha region, Tanzania.
Etymology: The specific epithet punctulatus is from the Latin punctulatus (= with dots), referring to the many dark spots of the species.
