Lectotype: BMNH 1909.4.29.91. Paralectotypes: BMNH 1909.4.29.92-94 (2); MRAC 155384 (1).
Type locality: Waterfall of Libi River near Ja River (Congo System) into which it flows, southern Cameroon.
Etymology: The Latin word pardalis derived from the Greek word pardalis, πάρδαλις (a leopard). In reference to the pattern of the fish.
