Holotype: MRAC 162203. Paratypes: BMNH 2006.12.18.1 (1); MRAC 162205 (1), 162206 (1), 162207-08 (2), 162209 (1), 162210-12 (3), 162214 (1), 162215 (1), 162216 (1).
Type locality: Angola, Nhefo River, affluent of Luachimo River, about 50 kilometers south of Dundo.[1]
Etymology: The species name is composed of the Greek makros (= long), and Latin punctum (= dot, spot), and refers to the relatively large spots on the flanks of the species.
