Holotype: BMNH 1961.12.1.319. Paratypes: BMNH 1961.12.1.320-325 (6).
Type locality: Uganda, Teso District, a tributary stream of the Aswa River.[1]
Etymology: The species name is composed of the Greek makros (= long), and ops (= eye), and refers to the relatively large eyes of the species.
