Holotype: AMNH 19841. Paratypes: AMNH 19679 (4).
Type locality: Birao, eastern French Equatorial Africa [Central African Republic; Chari River basin].[1]
Etymology: The species epithet is a compound of the Latin fascia (= band, stripe), and pinna (= fin), an allution to the banded caudal fin of the species.
Synonymy
edit- Acc. to Poll (1971: 57) is this species a questionable synonym of Synodontis nigrita.
