Holotype: BMNH 1907.12.2.2376.
Type locality: Mouth of Lake No, White Nile River, Sudan.
Etymology: The species name eupterus is a combination of the Greek eu, for beautiful, and the Greek pteron, for fin, alluding to the high dorsal fin of the species.
