Lectotype: MSNG 26493. Paralectotypes: MSNG 26493 (1); MRAC 165756 (1).
Type locality: Rubi River at Buta, Democratic Republic of Congo.
Etymology: The species name derives from the Latin contraho (= draw together, compressed), because of the considerable height of the body in comparison to the other dimensions of it, especially the head which is rather more stocky than in any other species of the genus.
