editStiphodon niraikanaiensis Maeda, 2013
Type locality: Okinawa Island, Ryukyu Archipelago, Japan.
Etymology: The specific name is derived from niraikanai and the Latin suffix -ensis. Niraikanai is the Okinawan mythical place from which all life originates and to which the spirits of dead person return. It is also said that gods bring fertility to this world from niraikanai. The location of niraikanai is unspecified, but it is usually thought to lie somewhere beyond the ocean. It is thought that, possibly, the main habitat of this species is somewhere over the ocean and the type specimens were brought to Okinawa from there.
