Type locality: a stream of Mat River near Thualthu, Lunglei district, Mizoram, India, 22°46'17"N, 92°56'27"E [1], 547 m above sea level.

Etymology: The specific name is derived from the Greek poros (= having pores), and Latin cephalicus (= head); a compound name in apposition referring to the prominent pores in the cephalic lateral line system.
