Type locality: Construction site of the motorway B19 - BAB 71 in 2004/2005, north of Münnerstadt, Lower Franconia, Germany.
Stratum typicum: Münnerstadt-Horizont, Obere Röttonsteine, Wiesenfeld-Subformation, Röt-Formation, Oberer Buntsandstein (Bithynium, Anisium, Mitteltrias).
Etymology: The species name minimahleri refers to a diminutive saurichthyid that was first found at Heroldsberg near Hammelburg from a tall Lower Frankonian named Horst Mahler from Euerdorf.
