- Holotype: AGM I-2, an almost complete specimen lacking most of the skull and the posterior tip of the caudal fin.
Type locality: Majiashan of Chaohu city, Anhui Province (China).
Stratum typicum: bottom of the Subcolumbites zone, Middle Spathian, (Onlenekian, Early Triassic), Middle Member of the Nanlinghu Formation.
Etymology: from Majiashan (Majia Hill) where the large quarry bearing the holotype and unique specimen is located.
