Type locality: Ikiakpuk Creek, a tributary of John River, 68°01'30"N, 152°20'56"W, Brooks Range, Alaska, U.S.A.

Etymology: –ensis (= suffix denoting place): from the Eskimo name Anaktuvuk (meaning Pass), “the place of the caribou crossing,” referring to the approximate center of its east-west distribution and general area of its type locality in Alaska. (From: The ETYFish project)
