  • Holotype: MCNG 56580.
  • Paratypes: MCNG 56581 (4,5).

Type locality: Tobogán da la Selva, creek forming a waterslide near the village Coromata, about 31 km south starting at the roundabout near the airport of Puerto Ayacucho, Amazonas Territories, Venezuela. 05°23’16"N, 67°37’00"W [1].

Etymology: The species is named the German aquarist, adventurer and fish collector Joachim Tomas who was one of the co-collectors of the species during a survey in 2010. Joachim Tomas died at the age of 49 in a sporting accident, two years later.
