  • Paratypes: CAS 229285 (2), 50195 (3), 50196 (1), 50242 (2).

Type locality: Nepal, Chitwan Valley, Reu River, near confluence with Rapti River.

Etymology: The specific name is the Latin noun assula, meaning a splinter, in allusion to the uniform brown coloration of this species, which imparts the appearance of a small piece of wood to the fish.
