Type locality: Hiva Oa [1], northwestern side of Tepuhiaatuna Point, Marquesas Islands, depth 20 meters.
Etymology: This specific epithet hiva is in reference to its being endemic to the Marquesas Islands. Legend suggests that the old Polynesian name for the Marquesas was Hiva, and this name is retained in three of the island names today, Hiva Oa (type locality), Fatu Hiva, and Nuku Hiva.
